PhD Student

Danielle Zwang is a PhD Student in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations concentrating in Egyptology. Her field of academic specialty includes the art and archaeology of pharaonic Egypt. She is particularly interested in studying the material remains of religious rituals.

Danielle is an archaeologist and museum specialist. She holds a BA in Anthropology and Art History from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MA in Museum Anthropology from Columbia University. Prior to enrolling at the University of Pennsylvania, Danielle worked for the Department of Egyptian Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She first joined The Met in 2016 as the William Kelly Simpson Graduate Student in Egyptian Art. She subsequently participated in the Museum’s expeditions to Dahshur and Malqata, where she worked as a registrar and field assistant. She has also worked as a field archaeologist at Jaffa in Israel. In 2019, Danielle returned to The Met as a research assistant to the Lila Acheson Wallace Curator in Charge of Egyptian Art.
