How the Bulgarians Survived the Holocaust

Jan 26, 2022 at -

Join us on January 26 for a Jewish Community Relations Council event, as we observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day and remember the innocent six million Jews and millions of other people who fell victims to Nazi persecution.

Over the years, competing national narratives have been shared about the history of Bulgarian Jews during the Holocaust. Thousands of Bulgarian Jews were saved, while at the same time, Greek and Macedonian Jews were deported to Treblinka by the Bulgarian authorities. In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Jewish Community Relations Council and AJC invite you to hear University of Pennsylvania professor Joseph Benatov present the facts surrounding these historical events and the international debate over how these moments should be interpreted and remembered.

Following Dr. Benatov's discussion, Judge Ramy Djerassi will share his family's experience of survival.

Please note, this session will not be recorded and shared afterwards.
