A Global Gender Protest

This hybrid international conference has been organized by two Penn faculty members, Profs. Firoozeh Kashani-Sabet (History Department) and Fatemeh Shams (NELC Department), and PhD Candidate, Sarah Eskandari (History Department), in response to the rise of the Woman, Life, Freedom revolutionary movement in Iran. It brings together prominent scholars and graduate students of different fields and academic institutions to address violence against women in the global context and women’s resistance to such violence in other settings such as South Asia, the Arab world, Latin America, the broader Middle East, and the United States. In this way, Iran specialists can expand their conversations by engaging with scholars working on similar uprisings in other contexts and vice versa. The conference will take place on Penn's campus (29-30 September). There will be a closing reception on September 30 at 5:00PM at the conclusion of the conference.
